On Sept. 7, with river dropping below 200 cfs and air temp in mid-70s (down from low 90s) I ventured out for first time since July. Fished Asbury. Overcast with occasional sprinkles, water temp marginal at 70 deg. Saw no rising fish or any bug activity whatsoever except for a single adult Yellow Sally stonefly. Fished a pair of bead-head nymphs and got into 5 fish, 4 rainbows and a smallie, all but one in the Beatty Pools downstream. This was just a week after stocking and the rainbows were fat and strong, but I’m surprised there weren’t more fish in evidence — maybe they were still lying low because of the recent heat spell. — Jim Merritt
