The birds are singing, the bugs are dropping, and the fish are eating! Fished most of the day Monday, had Asbury all to myself till mid morning. Early morning bite was on fire with about a solid hour of continued action. Most hits coming on a Flagler small black stonefly. Later in the morning I was joined by our President Rowlie at the Upper Rock Ledge where he put a good one in the net. By early afternoon the lot looked like opening day with quite a few guys taking advantage of the near 60 degree temps and a beautiful sky. There was a bit of a lull late morning into the afternoon and then the stones started dropping from the light breeze that picked up. Spoke to Mike Leta who was pretty charged up about matching that stone, and picking one off the top. Ended the day in the double digits of mostly Rainbows with a couple nice Browns in the mix!

See you all at the dinner Sunday, until then tight lines and ripping drags!

John, I’m deeply impressed. I don’t normally (ever, actually) fish the Musky in winter, but this mild winter has been the year to do so, and I would have but for a medical issue I’ve had to deal with. Our long-departed member Kenny Albright used to talk about the little black stonefly as a dependable winter hatch. If I don’t get out between now and April 1 this year I will aim for next year. Thanks for sharing your experiences and insights. Jim Merritt

Jim, wishing you a speedy recovery. Will you be attending the dinner on March 29th? Hope to see you there.

John, Will be there for sure — thanks and look forward to seeing you. In the meantime, will be tying up a few Little Black Stoneflies, nymphs and drys, and if the weather holds hopefully giving them a try. Jim
