While I’m no expert I do spend a fair amount of time on the water, and lately with the Musky running high and some not so great outings I began to question where these fish go. Well last week I did some research reading, and observing. The game plan I came up with was this: work the edges and soft pockets but try to keep a distance. Forget the normal middle runs that are usually so productive. My first thought was to swing bigger Streamers and Buggers but I’m not really a fan of that type of fishing so I set up a tandem nymph set up with a larger sz. 12 weighted PT and a smaller trailer and got to work. Well to my surprise my plan came together, I worked the slower edges and pockets and the fish aggressively hit. So don’t let the high water discourage you get out there and pound those soft seams! It’s looking like Lake Hopatcong is almost done draining so hopefully the next month we’ll see some more agreeable levels. Look forward to seeing some guys on the run.
