The river was in great shape; finally got under 300cfs. Water was 51.5 and clear. Heavy grannom flights on/off. Only one rise seen. Nymphs produced well dead drifted deep then into the swing. Short bursts of hot action would start up, then off like a switch.
Here’s the not-so-good news: We had 2 “fly fisherman” come in for a short while from the other bank at Smith’s hole. They were polite, stayed on their bank and only fished for a short while. They said they were “with Richard” and asked if I was too. I didn’t see them hook anything, BUT – I later caught a nice fat rainbow (blue chair) with an egg sac on a red egg hook in the corner of his mouth. I pulled the hook and reeled a happy fish to fight another day.
I also tried down at Bailey’s but came up empty down there, I’m assuming we couldn’t get back in there to stock yet.
Hello to new member Mick who lost a dandy up above while I was there. Welcome to the gang
    Go get ’em.

Glad to hear they were chewing. I fished Wednesday morning and experienced the same Grannom activity and saw 2 rises. Wish I could report the same success but I came up short only losing one nice colored up Bow on a Bugger. River really shaped up nice. Sad to hear we have visitors but not much we can do about it. See you out the Anthony.

    Anthony,
“Richard” would be Richard/Richie Cotton, who owns much of the Hunterdon County side of the river. He is also principal investor in the “Lodge at River Valley,” which grants access to members from the Hunterdon side from just below the Asbury dam down to the Farmhouse on our side. So however worrisome, these guys weren’t poaching. Probably they weren’t members but were, as they suggested, friends of Cotton, who has been a club nemesis for years.
