Anthony BavaroParticipantAndrew:
Do you mean “the farmhouse” in Asbury? The gorge and Bloomsbury dams are still up and insurmountable barriers for upstream migration, so either somebody is pulling our leg, or I’m thinking of the wrong “farmhouse”….
Anthony
Anthony BavaroParticipantYou had me on that one; I was sure we were going to see “shad” in your post. First Striper I’ve heard of caught that far up the Musky. Haven’t been in for a couple of weeks with the levels so high and a full work schedule, glad you guys could hit it. Need more reports…..where is everybody??????
Anthony
Anthony BavaroParticipantNice. It continued to be slow Sat am at Farmhouse, John. I got a couple from the riffle after you went up, then had to leave by 10:00 for chores. Swinging tandem, BHPtail on the dropper, Hdrkson emerger on point. Saw a couple of rises, some caddis egg layers on the suface. Glad you found ’em.
I watched that eagle take one of our nice rainbows last year, not 30 yards from me. Very cool to see, but also had mixed emotions on him poaching “our” water. He probably felt the same about me.
Anthony BavaroParticipantMr Keymaster:
Read May 2018 “Musky on the Fly”. Jim Merritt’s suggestions on rigs and fly combination is dead nuts on. This combo has been a killer “go-to” for me during May into early June. You can’t go wrong, unless you didn’t read Jim’s column or just aren’t trying. Find trout everywhere/anywhere in MTC water. Now go fishing and answer your own question. Don’t be so lazy.

Anthony BavaroParticipantYeah man, the water is finally down to fish able levels, caddis are hatching and egg laying. A few rises yesterday (Wednesday) but all hits were sub surface. They are on the insects and are fat and hungry. It is on. Time to play hookie, let the lawn grow, you can make up excuses later, just get in.
Anthony BavaroParticipantHey John:
My experience on the Musky in high water has definitely been better with an olive wholly bugger or a Pats rubber legs in deeper stretches. If the flow is over 300cfs, best bet is no weight, cut your leader back to about 6′ and do some yard work. Then you’ll be ready to go when it drops back to <250 range. Right now on a Saturday morning in April I think your best bet is try the South Branch. It’s high and cold but fish able. Just prepare for the crowds.
I think we’re still getting some extra flow from Hopatcong. I may try tomorrow if the flow drops some.
See ya
